けんぶち絵本まつり/Picture Book Festival in Kembuchi
現在、北海道剣淵町の町立図書館、「絵本の館」で絵本まつりが開かれています。
「絵本の館」とは、町立の図書館でありながら、絵本の蒐集に特化し、それに加えて大人による絵本の読み聞かせ等、多くの絵本にまつわる活動を行っている施設です。
剣淵町では、1988年以来、「絵本」を題材として様々な活動を続けて来ました。1991年に木造の旧役場庁舎を改装して絵本に特化した図書館「絵本の館」を開館しました。2004年に現在の場所に新築移転しました。これらの施設を中心に、絵本とそれに関連する多くの活動を実施して来ました。その活動は高く評価され、国を始めとする行政機関、そして新聞社等からも数々の賞を受けています。
「絵本の館」では、1991年以来「けんぶち絵本の里大賞」というコンテストを実施しています。一般の図書館来場者が、その年に出版された絵本を対象として票を投じます。単純な投票ですが、これまでも世の中の一般的な評判と大きく変わらない秀作が選ばれています。2022年は、総投票数9,735票により、大賞に「あきらがあけてあげるから」（ヨシタケシンスケ）、その他の賞に「パンどろぼうとなぞのフランスパン」（柴田ケイコ）、「やっぱり じゃない！」（チョーヒカル）、「大ピンチずかん」（鈴木のりたけ）が選ばれました。これらの受賞作の全ての原画が、本年3月19日まで館内で展示されています。
絵本は、小さな子供と親、あるいは子供に関わる大人との共同作業の材料となるものです。子供によっては、4、5歳から絵本を見始めます。しかし、それは、子供が書店に行って選ぶのではなく、大人が与えるものです。最初は文字も読めないんで、大人が読んであげる。ページもめくってあげる。そのような作業が続きます。多くの子供は、大きくなるとそのような時間が流れていたことを忘れます。しかし、そのことは消えることなく、子供の心の深い部分に染み込み、その子の人格形成に良き影響を与えているでしょう。
私の一人息子も既に社会人になりました。私は、彼が小さい時、どの絵本が良いか、世田谷区の図書館に行き、そこにあるすべての絵本に目を通しました。遠い昔のことです。
長く読まれている本は絵も秀逸であり、文章も豊かです。私は林明子の絵本が大好きです。彼女の絵本は、その多くが家族をテーマにしています。時代が変わり、家族のあり方も多様化する中、彼女の本を手にして家族のことを考えることは、子供だけでなく、大人にも豊かな時間をもたらすことでしょう。もちろん、「絵本の館」にも彼女の絵本は収蔵されています。
絵本まつりは3月19日に終わりますが、絵本の館はその後も通常どおり開館しています。皆様が、旅行、移動の際にここで過ごされる時間が良き時間をもたらしてくれることを、私が保証いたします。
The Picture Book Festival at Picture Book Library at Kembuchi Town, Hokkaido
Currently, “Ehon no Yakata” or Picutre Book Library in Kembuchi Town, Hokkaido hold the picture book festiva.
“Ehon no Yakata” or Picutre Book Library (the Library as follows) is a municipal library that specializes in collecting picture books, and also conducts many picture book-related activities, such as reading picture books to kids.
Since 1988, Kembuchi Town has continued various activities with “picture books” as the main theme. In 1991, the old wooden office building was renovated to open the Library specializing in picture books. The Library moved to its current location in 2004 with a new building. At Library, collection of picture books and many related activities have been carried out. Its activities have been highly evaluated, and it has received numerous awards from government agencies, newspaper companies, etc.
Since 1991, the Library has been holding a contest called the Kembuchi Picture Book Town Grand Prize. General visitors at the Library cast their votes for picture books published that year. It’s a simple vote, but excellent works that have not much different from the general reputation of the society have been selected. In 2022, with a total of 9,735 votes, the grand prize will be “Akira will open it for you” (Shinsuke Yoshitake), and the other prizes will be “Bread Thief and Mysterious French Bread” (Keiko Shibata), “Yappari janai!” (Cho Hikaru) and “Big Pinch Illustrated Guide” (Noritake Suzuki) were selected. The original pictures of these awarded books are exhibited in the Library until March 19th this year.
Picture books are materials for collaborative work between small kids and their parents, or adults relating to kids. Some kids start looking at picture books at the age of four or five. But that’s what adults give instead kids go to a bookstore and choose books. Kids can’t even read the letters at first, so an adult read it to them and turn over the pages, too. Such work continues. Many kids forget such times when they grow up. However, it will not disappear, but it will permeate the deep part of the kid’s heart and have a good influence on the formation of the child’s personality.
My only son has already become a businessman. When he was little, I went to the library in Setagaya Ward to find out which picture book he liked. I looked through all the picture books there. It was a long time ago.
A book that has been read for a long time has excellent pictures and rich sentences. I love Akiko Hayashi’s picture books. Many of her picture books are about a family. As times change and family styles diversify, reading her books and thinking about family now will bring a rich time not only for kids but also for adults. Of course, her picture books are stored in the Library.
The picture book festival will end on March 19th, but the picture book museum will be open as usual after that. I assure you that the time spent here will bring you good times during your travels and moves.
